Priestands School Sailing Team – National Schools Championships 2022

Typhoon International

July 06, 2022

Eight pupils from Priestlands School, sponsored by Typhoon International participated in the 68th National Schools Sailing Championships held at Itchenor Sailing Club on the 27 & 28th June.

Racing in RS Fevas in a large fleet of 98 boats against schools from across the country, pairings Freya Hutchinson & Joanna Macalister, Sienna Mordaunt & Flora Bunce, Alex Breese & Louie Punton and Amelia Hutchinson & Clodagh Punton were put to the test, racing eight windward-leeward courses in the series on the Chichester Channel.

Conditions on Monday were testing, with a fresh breeze and gusts of 25 knots, Tuesday saw lighter conditions with a moderate breeze and far fewer capsizes. Both days the sun shone and all children came ashore smiling.

Priestlands School’s best result was achieved by Freya & Joanna coming 5th in one race and 9th overall, an amazing achievement.  Much fun had by all, they are already in talks for preparation for 2023!
