Typhoon International, a leading manufacturer of drysuits, wetsuits, watersports clothing and accessories, is to sponsor the 2021 Scorpion National Championships in Penzance in association with Craftinsure and FFX. The Nationals will take place from 15th – 20th August, with over 160 competitors taking part, making it one of biggest Championships this summer.
Andrew Richards of Typhoon International comments: “Typhoon International’s sailing apparel is ideally suited to competitive Scorpion sailors, and we are pleased that our support will help the Class Association run a fantastic event”. He adds: “We wish the fleet plenty of thrilling racing and we are proud to be supporting the Scorpion Class.”
The Scorpion is a light planing two-person hiking dinghy which was designed in 1959. It has grown into a popular class, with up to 160 boats competing in past championships. Over the last couple of years, the class has been enjoying a resurgence in numbers.
“We are really excited to have Typhoon’s support for the Scorpion Nationals this summer,” comments Chris Yates, Chairman of the Scorpion Class Association. “It’s great to strike up new partnerships and we look forward to working together.”
With a spinnaker the boat can be very fast in expert hands but it is also easy to sail for novices. Like many classes the Scorpion’s construction has moved from wood to plastic although the race results for the classic older boats show that they are still strongly competitive.
